  • Today Resident Advisor is launching a series of films, in partnership with Asahi Super Dry, focusing on Japan's listening bars. The films explore Japan's rich culture of audiophile venues. It's a culture rooted in creating a listening atmosphere that is relaxed, unpretentious and primed for music discovery, with a dedication to high-quality sound—that means precision-made speakers, amps, turntables and mixers. The first two films focus on Tokyo venues SHeLTeR and Bridge. The SHeLTeR film, which you can watch below, shines light on Yoshio Nojima, who has been refining the bar's soundsystem for 30 years. That will be followed by a film about Bridge, an audiophile spot located high above Shibuya's world-famous pedestrian crossing that's equipped with huge wooden Rey Audio speakers. The series will then visit audiophile venues in Europe that have taken inspiration from spots like SHeLTeR and Bridge. Watch the first film on SHeLTeR, and revisit our 2016 feature Inside Tokyo's audiophile venues.
