The record, out in August on Ghostly International, marks the band's return to their "underground rock past."
Their first LP since 2014's Psychic 9-5 Club, Venus In Leo departs from Jonnine Standish and Nigel Yang's recent sound and will focus on more toned-back arrangements and idiosyncratic songwriting, in turn "returning to HTRK's underground rock past with the... variety of a modern mixtape," according to the press release. The album was recorded in the band's home studio in the Dandenong Ranges outside of Melbourne. As for the title, "what was once considered self-sabotage could be revisited as being under the influence of Venus in Leo," Standish explains.
HTRK released their first album, Marry Me Tonight, ten years ago. Since then, the band has undergone profound changes, with the first two albums released amid the deaths of close friend and collaborator Rowland S. Howard and HTRK cofounder Sean Stewart. They credit Psychic 9-5 Club as "setting them on a path of self-discovery." The new LP follows the two singles the duo self-released last year, Drama and Dying Of Jealousy.
In support of the album, the band will tour their new live set this fall, including stops in Berlin, Prague, London, Manchester and more.
