The artist will also debut a new live performance at London's Serpentine Galleries on September 6th.
The LP, written over an 18-month period, references various figures and topics such as "King of Gospel Music" composer James Cleveland, early 18th century tonalities, the work of "race film" pioneer Spencer Williams and the lasting impact of the artist's religious experience. In contrast to previous records like 2017's Tommy and 2018's CC, Lifetime contains less vocal work and each track is intended to stand as its own "conversational piece." On "For What Worth," Klein collaborates with sound artist and saxophonist Matana Roberts.
On September 6th, the same day as the album release, Klein will debut a new live performance at London's Serpentine Galleries. She will also participate in a live taping of the RA Exchange at Tate Lates this Friday, August 30th, at the Tate Modern.
