Iranian percussionist Mohammed Reza Mortazavi will release his sixth LP, Ritme Jaavdanegi, this December.
Ritme Jaavdanegi, which translates to "rhythm of eternity," was recorded in Berlin this past June and is inspired by Mortazavi's early music listening during his childhood years, according to the label. On the eight-track LP, Mortazavi explores the concept of an "eternal rhythm" via subtle percussive experiments in an 11/8 metre, a time signature based on the alteration of binary and ternary quantities. The percussion record also integrates traditional Persian instruments, like the tombak and daf.
In recent years, Mortazavi has performed at the Berliner Philharmonie as well as the Sydney Opera House. He's also collaborated with the likes of Burnt Friedman, Fis and Mark Fell.
