- Iowa Dream is out on Audika Records November 15th.
Audika Records has announced the details of a posthumous Arthur Russell release, Iowa Dreams.
Spanning 19 tracks, the album comprises demos, unreleased recordings and lost songs from the massively influential artist. The LP, the result of a decade of archival work by Steve Knutson and Russell's partner Tom Lee, sees the late cellist, singer and composer collaborating with downtown figures such as Rhys Chatham, David Van Tieghem and Henry Flynt. The multi-instrumentalist Peter Broderick worked with Audika to complete a number of nearly-finished songs.
Iowa Dreams shows various sides of Russell's sound. It includes newly discovered folk songs he wrote during a stint in Northern California, as well as music integrating the pop, disco and avant-garde influences of his New York years. The set also contains "You Did It To Yourself," which previously appeared only as part of the Arthur Russell documentary, Wild Combination
