When we first heard The KLF, Snap and C&C Music Factory would be playing... together... on an Australian Tour we were almost certain someone was just taking the piss.
But they weren't! It’s going to be a big night at Wharf 3 on June 13th for Sweatfest who promise a night of music from the 90’s groups that built the bridge between pop and house music – The KLF, Snap & C&C Music Factory and return to Sydney for a huge event.
These pioneers of commerical house music were producer lead groups who created their sound in the studio using session singers and guest vocalists. So at $75 per ticket just who are you paying to see at Wharf 3?
Headlining the event is supposedly the infamous KLF, known for their sheepish antics and massive hits that included “3AM Eternal”, “Justified and Ancient”, “Last train to Trancentral” and “What Time Is Love”. However producers James Cauty and Bill Drummond aka: The KLF will not be performing and instead it will be “electric and eclectic Goddess”, Wanda Dee that will be representing the group, although Wanda only actually performed the vocals sampled on one of tracks! It should be interesting to hear an American rap singer recreate the vocals of “Justified and Ancient” which was performed by legendary country singer Tammy Wynette who passed away in 1998.
C & C Music Factory churned out more “housey” hits than any of the groups and billed to represent the sound of one of the dominant dance forces of the 90’s is former C&C choreographer and dancer Barbara Tucker, as opposed to the most credited vocalists for C&C - Freedom Williams and Zelma Davis. C&C was the baby of producers Robert Clivilies and David Cole (who passed away in 1995).
“Snap! hold the distinction of being the biggest selling act in BMG’s history and one person holds the distinction of being the paralyzing voice of this international mega-group’s two biggest selling albums – Turbo B”. Turbo B, was the vocalist/rapper involved in Snap for hits including: “Rhythm Is A Dancer”, “The Power”, “Mary Had A Little Boy” and “Cult of Snap”, and is still the biggest selling rap star in the world.
