  • The last two years have seen the Harlem stable grow from strength to strength as a self-sufficient label designed as an outlet for Steve Lawler’s musical tastes. This next release however marks a new chapter in the Harlem history. Effectively under new management, the label, whilst still fully A&R’d by Steve, is now under the control of the renowned Plastic Fantastic team. Talking about the change Steve obviously feels like it’s a move in the right direction:
”I am really into the vibe at Plastic… It’s like a family of like-minded people. I have bought records there for years and have got to know the lads over time. They are all 100% committed to the music and to making sure the best tunes see the light of day…that’s why they are so respected within the industry. When they suggested taking Harlem under their wing I jumped at the chance. Like me they’re all about good music so it’s a perfect fit”
The first offering will see Steve step up for remix duty and deliver his skills on the brilliant Bombdogs ‘I Can’t Explain’. Originally released 3 years ago on a white label, the track sold just 200 copies but Steve was apparently “waiting in the wings to pick it up and give it the Midas touch for his own Harlem Records”. Revamping and beefing up the familiar riff, it bounces along and straight into one of Lawler’s signiture house vocals. His trademark ‘last record’ at his monthly Harlem Nights gigs @ The End it has now been championed by Pete Tong as an Essential New Tune and can be heard in the recent sets of Laurent Garnier, Sasha, Digweed, Nic Fanciulli, Erick Morillo, Desyn Messiello and Mark Knight. Keep an ear out fo rthis one.
