  • Two of hip hop's finest are set to grace us when Kool Keith and Kutmasta Kurt hit Melbourne on Friday 11 March at the Hi Fi Bar & Ballroom. Back in 1986, Kool Keith was a lyrical innovator with the legendary Bronx-based group Ultramagnetic MCs. Soon after, Kool Keith emerged with his debut release, Dr Octagonecologyst under the moniker Dr Octogon - a crazed gynecologist from the year 3000 who travels back in time to 1996. With DJ Q-Bert on the scratch, Dan The Automator (of Handsome Boy Modelling School and Gorillaz) and DJ Shadow behind the boards the album was quick to become an underground classic. Kutmasta Kurt has collaborated, produced and remixed for some of music’s biggest names, including The Beastie Boys, DJ Spooky, Linkin Park, Blackalicious, Dilated Peoples and many more! Kurt was last in Australia with Motion Man supporting 1200 Techniques on their national tour in 2003. Kutmasta Kurt will also feature in the upcoming Channel V MC search ‘Aussie Friggin Hip-Hop’. Kurt will produce a track in LA for the winner and join some of the Qld CH.V Detour festival dates in March. Stay tuned to www.channelv.com.au. Supporting on the night is Curse Ov Dialect and the evening will be host by MC Raph. Tickets are available from Polyester Records, Gaslight Records and online at www.thehifi.com.au.
