The Y4K compilation series is one especially devoted to breakbeat, and put out by Distinctive Breaks. It the past the compilations have been mixed by DJs and producers such as Tayo (two times!), Soul of Man, The Dub Pistols, Freq Nasty and more. It also seems that people embrace different mixes in the series showing that the DJs chosen offer differing perspectives. This time around an Australia DJ, Phil K, has been selected to compile and mix his first Y4K release. For a run down on the track listing, check our earlier news item here.
Phil K has been been a DJ for 20 years and on the cutting edge for many of these. His productions and mixes have also been embraced the world over by the likes of Sasha, Dave Seaman, Lee Burridge and Anthony Pappa to name but a handful. For the Y4K series Phil has put together an eclectic mix that ranges from subtle progressive textures to mashed up guitars to dancefloor fillers none of which seem out of place as they sit next to each other in the mix. It's an intelligent, well thought out and impressively produced mix that is a notably worthy addition to the Y4K series. To launch the release of the Y4K album Phil will be undertaking an extensive tour of Australia. The dates are below and he's hitting the regional areas as well, so get along and witness the genius of Phil K for yourself!
