- Kompakt's head honcho proves once again he is ‘always’ on the lookout for good music, both old and new.
Owner and A&R of Cologne-based Kompakt Records, Michael Mayer revealed to RA that he is setting up a new record label, Immer, which will be distinct from his Kompakt umbrella of labels.
Bearing the same name as his impressive and must-have mix compilation from 2002, the new imprint will be a re-release label with Mayer personally picking some of his favourite tracks which are no longer available on vinyl.
“Immer means ‘always’ [in German] and I will choose tracks that I always play, that always totally work for me, “ says Mayer. “It's going to be a very personal affair, almost a selfish thing to do because I almost can't play the original records anymore. They're so fucked up and I need new copies.”
If his current A&R skills and the track selection on the Immer compilation are anything to go by, Immer will be yet another bow in the weaponry of the German DJ/producer. While it’s unlikely the Immer release schedule will be on par with the output of his Kompakt imprint, it looks like we’ll be able to expect quite a few releases in the coming months.
“There are so many nice records, beautiful records that didn't get really well known; like old deep house things or anything really. I'm collecting things now and it will be a kind of hobby thing”, adds Mayer.
