  • He's already done one trip to Australia this year as part of the Good Vibrations Festival, and it must have been a good time, as Lyrics Born is coming back! Lyrics Born aka Tom Shimura is part of the Quannum collective, a group of five plus diverse members that includes Lateef the Truth Speaker, Gift of Gab, DJ Shadow, Chief Xcel and others. He is a Japanese-American rapper, thus the background for his previous recording alias Asia Born, who met his Quannum colleagues while at the University of California, Davis, in the early nineties. The New York Times has described Lyrics Borns prowess by saying "He spews syllables with the speed and syncopation of a jazz singer over backup tracks evoking 1970's soul". The tour is being presented by Jam Music who also were behind the GV Festival. This time around should be a better showcase of Lyrics Born that his previous show as he is touring with a six piece band. Punters can expect a a blend of funk, R&B, rock, reggae and soul and his hits tracks "I Changed My Mind" and "Callin' Out" off his debut album 'Later That Day...'. Go along and be seduced by his smoothness! Lyrics Born Tour Dates Thursday 25 August - Family, Brisbane, Friday 26 August - Prince of Wales, Melbourne, Saturday 27 August - Gearins Hotel, Katoomba, Sunday 28 August - Metro Theatre, Sydney
