  • Liverpool's 24 Kitchen Street is seeking support against residential developers. The issue at hand is noise complaints. According to a Facebook post from the venue owners, Liverpool council is granting permission to a neighbouring block of flats to install a type of window that "will, according to acoustic surveys conducted both on [24 Kitchen Street's] behalf and the developer, almost certainly lead to noise complaints once residents move in (September 2020). As has happened with venues up and down the country, noise complaints get venues shut." Liverpool Council has suggested 24 Kitchen Street use Temporary Event Notices for any bass heavy event, though, they're only allowed 12 per year. Over the past 12 months, 60 to 90 shows at the venue, including techno, punk and bass music nights, might have required this temporary license. "We are not prepared to accept this, and realistically would rather shut our doors than work under such restrictive conditions," the post goes on to say. 24 Kitchen Street concludes by asking the community to help spread awareness around their fight. Find out more info and support on the venue's GoFundMe page and Change.org petition. Read 24 Kitchen Street's full statement.
