  • Amanda Sewell's new book Wendy Carlos will be published by Oxford University Press in April 2020. The 264-page biography follows the singular life and career of the Rhode Island native whose work on albums like Switched-On Bach and Sonic Seasonings—as well as her scores for A Clockwork Orange, The Shining and Tron—were crucial in bringing synthesizer music to the mainstream. Carlos, a three-time Grammy winner, underwent gender reassignment surgery in 1979, and also became a transgender icon and pioneer, as one of the first public figures to disclose this procedure. Amanda Sewell is the music director at Interlochen Public Radio in Michigan. Wendy Carlos is her first book. It will be published in April in the US and May in the UK.
