  • Sam Burns, a well-loved Washington, DC, house DJ, has died. Burns' career in music began in 1978, when he got a job as a doorman at Chapter II nightclub. A few months later, he filled in for a resident DJ and kicked off a 40-year career behind the decks. His list of residencies is an informal history of house music in DC—he held regular posts at Chapter II, the Roxy, the Ritz, Tracks, the Insect Club, State of the Union, Red, Dragonfly, 18th Street Lounge and U Street Music Hall, while working at various record stores like The Hut. The Washington Post's Pop Music Critic Chris Richards broke the news of Burns' passing on Saturday.
