Genesis P-Orridge dies age 70

  • Genesis P-Orridge died today, March 14th. The news was shared by Genesis's daughters via Dais Records cofounder Ryan Martin. The note says that P-Orridge had been battling leukemia for the past two-and-a-half years, and will be laid to rest with former partner Jaqueline "Lady Jaye" Breyer (who died in 2007). P-Orridge was best known for starting Throbbing Gristle, the mid-'70s band that invented industrial music and greatly influenced the post-punk, EBM and electronic scenes. (The group started out as a performance art collective called COUM that s/he founded with Cosey Fanni Tutti.) In the early '80s, P-Orridge put together a new band called Psychic TV, as well as the occult order Thee Temple Ov Psychick Youth. Most recently, P-Orridge appeared extensively on Vatican Shadow's Berghain 09 mix.
