- The Dublin Electronic Arts Festival (D.E.A.F) returns for a fourth year with an Underground Resistance Live performance.
Plenty to look out for this weekend in Dublin with the return of D.E.A.F, the Dublin Electronic Arts Festival. Now in its fourth year, the festival will take over Dublin's venues, clubs, bars and galleries from Thursday October 27th to Monday October 31st with more than 150 artists spread over 40 events mixing live electronic music and visual performances, DJ sets, digital exhibitions and workshops.
Established in 2001 in order to provide a platform for Irish artists working in the electronic arts, D.E.A.F has strived to achieve that fertile meeting point in the electronic arts between popular culture and artistic experiment, and in doing, so allow the work of the artists involved to be well and truly...heard.
One of the highlights of this year's D.E.A.F program is the Underground Resistance Live & D1 Japanese Showcase. Boasting a line-up that includes live and DJ performances from such undeniable talent as Los Hermanos, Galaxy to Galaxy, Mark Broom, DJ S2, Eamonn Doyle, Conceal and Kan Shimomura, the night should be one for the memory books.
Detroit's second generation of producers founded UR in 1989 and its initial members were "Mad" Mike Banks, Jeff Mills, Robert Hood and Alan Oldham before Mills left to start Axis Records and Hood left to start Hardwax and M-Plant and DJ Rolando and James Pennington came on board.
Those familiar with contemporary underground electronic music will be aware of the rarity that is a UR live appearance (termed an 'assault'); with such events being likened to a solar eclipse. On a previous unannounced visit to London they played a gig that was packed out solely through word of mouth; something few acts can lay claim to.
