  • Last year's Jazzbop vs Hip Hop party was the Australian debut of Alice Russell and the Quantic Soul Orchestra, and they gained themselves a new legion of fans, Alice for her beautiful singing and QSO for their funky professional act. This time around QSO and Alice make the trip out from the UK to deliver explosive new sets from their latest album releases on Tru Thoughts. Quantic is firmly established as one of the UK’s most prolific and consistent producers. His live project the QSO fuses the past, present and future and will once again enlist Melbourne outfit The Bamboos to deliver the QSO’s unique brand of deep funk, soul, afro and boogie. The latest QSO album "Pushin' On" has just been released. In addition to his live performance, Quantic will also man the decks for a late night DJ set. Alice Russell’s career has skyrocketed since her last visit to Australia, her lavishly soulful voice both timeless and up to the minute modern. On the back of her new and second album, "My Favourite Letters" and performances with Roy Ayers, Bah Samba and De La Soul, Alice is set to dazzle even more new fans with her soaring yet tearstained vocals. Joining them will be DJ Mad Mats, founder of Sweden’s Raw Fusion, Gamm and Jugglin’ labels. Mats is respected as one of the most important figures in Scandinavian club culture and continually voted as Sweden’s favourite DJ. Expect serious turntable action as he drops freestyle beats alongside Raw Fusion resident MC Aaron Phiri. Completing the lineup is pioneering jazz dance DJ Russ Dewbury. Holding down an 18-year residency at the legendary Jazz Rooms in Brighton, Russ combines his roles as producer, promoter and label boss with an effortless ability to rock the house. Tickets are now of sale for the Sydney and Melbourne events. If you like your music broad, funky, jazzy, with beats and soul then check this.
