The festival's sole queer club has published a video that aims to capture its unique atmosphere.
Director Harry Lawson shot footage for the project during the infamous party's 10th anniversary back at Glastonbury in 2017. Utilizing experimental sound design and edits that draw from arthouse cinema, Meat Rack captures NYC Downlow's cast, crew and characters.
Housed in a film set replica of warehouses in Manhattan's meatpacking district circa 1982, NYC Downlow pays homage to the often X-rated afterhours events that fortified dance music culture during this era. In place of a physical party this year, Block9 is participating in Glastonbury 2020's online celebrations with a stream on Saturday, June 27th. Beaming in live from their London warehouse with all the props and paint you'd expect from a night at NYC Downlow, the lineup features a host of UK talents like Norman Jay MBE, Batu, DJ Paulette and Heidi.
The event will raise funds for The Runnymede Trust, a leading race equality think tank in the UK, and Médecins Sans Frontières, a humanitarian organization that's making a crisis appeal to support countries across Africa, Asia, Latin America & Caribbean and Europe during the COVID-19 pandemic.
