  • The approaching weekend brings with it a handful of Streamland highlights from the intimate to the mega. Thursday starts with the former, as Atlanta head Kai Alcé continues his new Variety Show series. It's just him, two turntables, a room full of records and a few hours of spectacular house music to see you into the weekend. Those feeling the pain from Glastonbury's cancellation can rejoice as the crew behind Shangri-La put together Lost Horizon Festival, a four-stage virtual experience that runs from Friday afternoon to Sunday morning. Hear sets from the likes of Peggy Gou, Nastia and Carl Cox or explore the virtual festival grounds to find venues, secret headliners, art and performance. Move The Record, an initiative launched by Dana Ruh and her KMA60 store, is also kicking off on Friday. Fred P, Steffi, Prins Thomas and Bradley Zero are among the names playing in record shops around the world until Sunday morning in order to support stores struggling through the pandemic. Back in the club universe, beloved Brooklyn club Good Room is broadcasting every night of the weekend to raise money for the venue, with FIXED residents JDH & Dave P getting things going on Friday night. Bandcamp Fridays have become a great way for the wider music community to get behind a cause. This month is the Independent Label Market, with the site donating its revenue to independent imprints selling on the platform. Dozens of labels are getting involved in the market, putting together special offerings for the day, and it'll be soundtracked with DJ sets by indie label reps like Tim Sweeney of Beats In Space, Benjamin Fröhlich of Permanent Vacation and recent Mexican Summer signee Photay. Looking ahead to Saturday, NYC's The Bunker is back on the stream to celebrate Fourth of July with Detroit-via-New York jock Turtle Bugg bringing funk to everything he touches. Robert Hood, Shanti Celeste, Afrodeutsche and OK Williams also jump on the airwaves for Boiler Zoom to raise funds for The NAACP Legal Defence, an American firm fighting for racial justice.
