  • The next release on Melodies comes from American soul and disco artist La'Verne Washington. The Promise 7-inch, featuring the A-side title cut and a flipside, "I Found What I've Been Searching For," was originally self-released in 1984. It was recorded just before Washington's move to DC, where she became a program specialist for the National Endowment For The Arts, as well as working with organizations like the Rhythm And Blues Foundation and the Pioneer Awards Ceremonies. She's kept on making music as well, performing solo and singing as a backup vocalist for Freda Payne and DeeDee Sharp. The Melodies reissue comes as a 7-inch as well as on digital formats, marking the first digital release for these songs. Washington provided the 24-track master tapes to Melodies boss Floating Points, who remixed both tracks. The 7-inch also comes with a large-format poster of the original sleeve.
