The music was composed for a documentary about the first-ever skiers to descend the Alaskan mountain.
Music For Denali features some of Ciani's earliest recorded music, commissioned in 1973 as the soundtrack to a documentary about the first-ever skiers to descend the mountain, which is the tallest peak in North America. The previously unreleased work predates her first records by several years, and was written and recorded before her first-ever Buchla concerts in 1974 and 1975. It was recorded solely with a Buchla synthesizer and piano.
"It was recorded at Rainbow Recording, which is the studio I found and shared with recording engineer Richard Beggs, who then sold it to Francis Ford Coppola after I fell in love and quickly moved to LA," Ciani says. "If I had stuck around I would have probably ended up doing sound for Coppola."
Finders Keepers has released other archival material from Ciani, most recently 2019's Flowers Of Evil, with music that dates back to 1969.
