  • It's been a while between Blow parties, but after a one year break Blow Your Own Way is returning to the Melbourne events scene with another international guest. Past Blow parties have hosted Aril Brikha, Kenny Larkin and Soul Designer. The next event will showcase techno producer and live performer Stewart Walker (USA) on Friday 27 January at Playpen in Prahran. Walker's first techno release came in 1997 on Detroit's Matrix Records and shortly afterwards came European releases. His tracks are on well-known labels including Tresor, Force Inc. and Richie Hawtin's M-Nus imprint. With his records gaining popularity among DJs, he began accepting offers to perform live locally. Over time Walker has been developing his live act from the dual perspectives of taking a studio setup on the road and gaining an appreciation for the vitality generated from crowd interaction at live performances. The differences in audience preferences for hard vs. soft, danceable vs. listenable in Europe and the USA pushed Walker to perfect his live techniques such that he now feels confident that he can match a DJ in intensity and stamina every night. Walker's live performance is flexible with the music prescribed by the vibe of the audience at hand. More recently, Stewart decided to found his own label and christened it Persona with the sole intention of bringing personality back into the genre of techno in 2001. Stewart remains committed to defying techno music standards by playing live and pushing himself to interact with his audience, resulting in intimate shows consistently characterized by a fresh, sharp, cutting-edge sound. Support on the night comes from JP Larue, Damian Laird, Dallas Raft and Sam McEwin. Entry is $15 on the door.
