Chilean DJ and producer Luciano, of Cadenza Records, has recorded 'Sci.Fi Hi.Fi Volume 2', the next mix compilation for Soma.
It may be hard to believe but Soma has been around for nearly 16 years, pushing a host of talented DJ and producers that have contributed to contemporary dance and electronic music culture. Set up by Slam (aka Stuart McMillan and Orde Meikle) and David Clarke, the label has been challenging the boundaries of underground dance music - names like Alex Smoke, Master H, Hipp-E and Gene Farris recently seen gracing a Soma sleeve or CD inlay.
In recent years, Chile's Luciano has also made some big contributions to contemporary dance culture with releases on his own imprint Cadenza, and also Perlon and Klang Elektronik not to mention props for DJ sets at clubs including Fabric London, Robert Johnson, the Panorama Bar and most recently at The Pawn Shop at this year's WMC.
This summer will see Luciano spin at the Cocoon Wildlife 2 parties and also take up residency at DC-10 in Ibiza. His production skills continue to shine with his remix of Salif Keita's 'Yamore’ receiving critical acclaim from DJs worldwide and his latest collaboration with Thomas Melchior, 'Father', flying off the shelves in record stores.
For this new DJ mix on Soma, which follows on from last year's ‘Sci.Fi.Hi.Fi’ mixed by Ewan Pearson, Luciano draws on his many travels and Chilean upbringing, including tracks from artists the world over such as Tadeo, Serafin, Donnacha Costello, Adam Beyer, Ricardo Villalobos, Huggotron and Kuniyuki. From start to finish the mix conveys an optimistic feeling strung with passion and energy and will surely be appreciated on a night alone with a great sound system.
