  • Uncivilized World will release 'Blue Potential', a CD and DVD of the performance by Jeff Mills and the Montpellier Philharmonic Orchestra which took place in France last year. In July 2005, Jeff Mills together with the National Orchestra of Montpellier, performed some of his compositions arranged and adapted for a classical music audience by composer Thomas Roussel, under the Pont Du Gard bridge, in celebration of the 20th anniversary of its placement of bridge on the World Heritage list. Thomas Roussel, the Montpellier orchestra and Jeff Mills worked together to combine two forms of instrumental music which, according to Mills, "share common emotions and expressive elements". This latest fusion between electronic and classical music involving the Montpellier Orchestra continues on from the concert and DVD 'Yesterday, Today, Tomorrow', a year 2000 collaboration between the orchestra and DJs Manu Le Malin and Torgull, initiated by René Koering, Director of the Montpellier Philharmonic Orchestra. Explaining how he was able to transpose and rearrange Jeff Mills music to suit a classical audience, Roussel says, “Jeff often thought about some of his tracks in an orchestral sense. So it was very easy to adapt these pieces. For other more minimalist pieces, we needed to go beyond the arrangements and actually work on the compositions”. Orchestra conductor, Altinoglu, adds, "Jeff set himself the task of providing the rhythmical electronic parts and some of the percussion, working a lot in free form, at times improvising, as we might imagine a jazz chorus would do". This latest venture into more orchestral dimensions by Jeff Mills follows on from his cinematic excursion when he composed the soundtrack for the Fritz Lang science fiction classic, 'Metropolis'. Jeff Mills - 'Blue Potential' on CD/DVD is released on June 6th, 2006.
