- The London-based platform will pause new shows and broadcasts while founder Gilles Peterson searches for a long-term solution.
Online radio station Worldwide FM will shift to a new model next month.
From October 28th, the London-based platform will pause new broadcasts and shows as it switches to "a much more minimal service," according to a statement. The website and archive will remain active and founder Gilles Peterson will continue to host shows.
"We're having to make certain changes at Worldwide FM, re-organising and re-evaluating the next phase and financing for the station," said the statement. In a Twitter post, Peterson said he will work on a solution "to revive [the station] in the coming year."
The Brownswood Recordings boss launched the award-winning station, based out of The BoAt Pod studio in London's Little Venice neighbourhood, in 2016. Its wide-ranging selection of music, interviews and storytelling by multi-disciplinary creatives has cultivated a loyal fanbase across the globe. It's currently home to more than 100 residents.
"WWFM was actually born out of the show I made for Grand Theft Auto in 2013...," wrote Peterson, "and grew to be a real life music and culture platform helping develop a new generation of broadcasters as well as acting as a first base in the development of many new artists."
