RA's 2006 Sonar Prologues continues with two Americans. Philadelphia's Diplo and Detroit's Jimmy Edgar.
Following on from yesterdays Sonar Prologues with Miss Kittin and Isolee come a pair of talented American natives.
Diplo is a man that knows the true definition of the word groove. His sounds and styles not only traverse genres but also cross cultures, making him a natural fit for the Sonar philosophy. Known widely as the producer behind last years in demand artist M.I.A., Diplo's cult following goes further back to his sought-after mixtapes and Hollertronix parties.
One demo sent to Ninja Tunes hip hop offshoot Big Dada earnt him his debut LP 'Florida' released in 2004. The release brought together vintage soul samples with faevela funk and jurassic crunk, marking Diplo as one of the champions of the emerging Baile funk sound.
RA got a hold of the man of many sounds to get his past impressions and forthcoming expectations of this Spanish festival.

Over in Detroit we have Jimmy Edgar. Born and raised in Motor City this 22 year old’s influences were naturally techno based. Edgar’s style has a distinct raw and personal take on the native techno sound and at the tender age of 15, he was playing along side local heavyweights that included Derrick May and Juan Atkins. His work on Warp Records has been well noted and his latest album ‘Color Strip’, released early this year, is suitably dark as you would expect from this prodigious techno producer. Couple this with his work as a designer and fashion label owner and you’ve got one hell of a busy boy. Bearing this in mind we get an interesting angle from Jimmy Edgar as he prepares for his debut Sonar experience.
