  • London queer promoter Big Dyke Energy (BDE) has revealed details of its last-ever party. Taking place this Saturday, December 9th, the day-into-night event will feature a two-stage takeover of The Cause from 2 PM through 10 PM, followed by an afterparty at regular home Venue MOT. The lineup across both clubs includes Planningtorock, Riva, Teecra, Shy One, ISAbella, Coco Cole, Michelle Manetti, Jaye Ward, sadidas, mi-el, Angel D'Lite, Jay Duncan and FAFF. "While we're bidding farewell to an incredible era of BDE parties, we know that in doing so we're making space for the next generation of industry-defining queer talent from across the UK to help shape what comes next," cofounders Melo and Elliott told Resident Advisor. To support aspiring queer promoters, BDE launched a grant scheme called Save Queer Raves earlier this week. It'll provide "long-term financial support and mentorship to queer, trans+, nonbinary and intersex event organisers across the UK," according to BDE. The aim is to raise £15,000 to support ten promoters. You can donate now to the fundraising initiative. "When we first started BDE four years ago there were various challenges we faced when it came to breaking into the scene, but nothing like what we are currently seeing today," the cofounders said. "For emerging queer promoters it feels almost impossible in the current climate to bring ideas and ambitions to life—and with such little conversation around this reality, we want to do what we can to help change this." They continued: "As we're hurtling towards a promoter monopoly across the UK, we need to take action to ensure our music scene stays diverse and that independent, queer organisers can continue to thrive. This grant scheme will provide much-needed funding for emerging talent to get their ideas off the ground—and perhaps most importantly, it will give those of us in the industry a chance to pass on the knowledge to the next generation of queer promoters."
