  • YAAM has secured its long-term future after signing a 30-year rental agreement. The longstanding Berlin venue broke the news on Instagram last Thursday, March 28th. "We permanently secured our location from market exploitation and [to] preserve it for subculture, safe space and socio-cultural common good," the post read. "After 30 years, the era of temporary contracts is coming to an end and we can finally look forward and create the YAAM of the future with you for the next generation." YAAM has also received €800,000 of lottery funding, which will be used to repair the roof of the venue, according to Berliner Zeitung. Short for Young African Arts Market, YAAM first opened in 1994. The Friedrichshain space spans bars, dance floors and food stalls, and has hosted artists such as David Rodigan, Jah Shaka and Flowdan across the years. Read the post in full.
