  • Resident Advisor and Doors Open have partnered with Berlin radio station Refuge Worldwide to launch a careers development project. Taking place at the Refuge Worldwide studio in Neukölln on May 16th, Unlocked is a free event that aims to equip participants with knowledge around roles that exist within the scene. It will span a series of sessions with leading industry figures, such as Refuge Worldwide cofounder Richard Akingbehin, Radio 80000 programmer Sianza Zink, !K7 label manager Sofia Jönsson, setten booking agent Yuko Asanuma, Refuge Worldwide senior product manager Nicky Böhm, CDR founder Tony Nwachukwu, RA chief creative & brand officer Kazim Rashid, RA chief impact & culture officer Amy Van-Baaren, RA senior producer Chloe Lula, RA head of people and culture Mike Zinkiewich, and Fandango DJ and promoter Tania Just. "As someone from the South Wales Valleys, I didn't even know the industry existed until I was in my late 20s—let alone how to access it," said Van-Baaren. "This is a step towards changing that." Unlocked is open to anyone interested in working in the music industry, and no prior experience is required. Priority will be given to applications from FLINTA, POC and LGBTQIA+ communities, as well as people with visible and non-visible disabilities and/or from lower income households. Lunch will be provided and travel bursaries are available on request. The deadline for applications is April 26th. Unlocked is a step towards demystifying and diversifying the club scene. A 2022 study found that just 16 percent of people in creative jobs are from working-class backgrounds. The project previously ran in London in 2022 and 2023 under the name of Access All Areas.
