  • My My cap off the success of their EPs with a longplayer on Playhouse. ‘Songs for the Gentle’ will be released in October. My My are a Berlin collective made up of Carsten Klemann, Lee Jones & Nick Höppner. But check the bill carefully: sometimes they perform as a threesome and sometimes solo. Or Carsten might start the night DJing before Lee and Nick do their live thing, which may in turn be followed by any of them DJing until the wee hours (and the hours get very wee in Berlin.) The trio formed three years ago after Lee had to Berlin from London, where he ran the project Hefner. Nick had quit his job as an editor at Groove magazine and started to produce music as well, while Carsten had just started to DJ in various Berlin clubs. ‘Songs for the Gentle’ follows up on four dancefloor gems: the EPs ‘Klatta’, ‘Serpentine’, ‘Swiss On Rye’ and this month’s ‘Butterflies and Zebras’. My My’s sound is hard to put in a box: something running on rough and spastic rhythms, sometimes smoother house with or without a touch of electro. The latest album promises pop, dub and hip-hop influences, and that old chestnut of “driving music”, though they stress that “for a change, it’s not about calmly cruising by night through a neon lit city. This is a wild and dusty ride along curvy coastal roads.” The album also comes with three bonus tracks from the EPs as well as a new version of their dirty hit ‘Serpentine’.
