  • Old meets new when Berlin label !K7 throws a birthday bash at Koko in London with Henrik Schwarz and Herbert lining up to blow out the candles. There’s two smaller parties happening earlier in the week too with a bash at Phonica Records and an indie rock jam from !K7 sub-label Ever Records going down at Luminaire. From Kruder & Dorfmeister to Swayzak, A Guy Called Gerald and Funkstörung, Berlin output !K7 has been serving up cutting edge electronics and experimental beats for twenty-one (count ‘em) years now. !K7 is probably most known for their long-running ‘DJ Kicks’ series which has spawned mixes from the likes of Nightmares On Wax, Tiga and Four Tet, but few might know !K7 actually started out as a video production company, making videos for the goth likes of Einstürzende Neubauten and Nick Cave in the eighties, later moving on to producing the techno video mixes of Paul Van Dyk and Laurent Garnier. Twenty-one years later, and !K7 is coming of age and Matthew Herbert and latest signing Henrik Schwarz are coming to the party to blow out the candles. Herbert is one of the label's longest-serving artists, and he’ll perform pieces from 'Scale' together with his full band. New signing Schwarz will laptop his way through a live version of his forthcoming ‘DJ Kicks’ mix, so expect to groove. !K7 is also part-owner of Rapster Records, the label which releases the ode-to-genre 'Kings Of' series. As part of the celebrations, Rapster will host an exhibition of photos used in the artwork of the 'Kings of' series. The launch party will take place at Phonica Records on November 14, 2006 with DJ sets by Mr Thing (‘Kings of Hip Hop’) and BBE's Peter Adarkwah so get down for schmoozing and picture perusing. If you’re in a guitar mood, !K7's indie-rock sublabel Ever Records also cuts the cake at The Luminaire on November 15, 2006 with Cortney Tidwell, Cyann & Ben and XFM’s Nick Luscombe. Matthew Herbert and Henrik Schwarz play the !K7 21st anniversary party at Koko, London on Thursday, November 16, 2006.
