  • Nowhere do old and new combine so fluidly as in Rome, and Roman electronic festival Dissonanze 08 happening in mid-May looks set to do to electronic music what they manage with architecture. Fittingly, Friday night’s centrepiece in the evocative Palazzo Dei Congressi is a night of Italodisco, with Daniele Baldelli and Alexander Robotnik headlining. The Saturday, however, should get techno fans truly salivating: Juan Atkins and Mad Mike Banks as Model 500 are playing live, while Carl Craig is also set to DJ. Krautrock legends Cluster featuring core members Dieter Moebius and Hans-Joachim Roedelius are also set to perform. Straight dance music acts at the fest include Booka Shade, Cobblestone Jazz, Deadbeat and Loco Dice, while dance performances are also scheduled from experimental British troupe Array Dance Company. Elsewhere the bill spells variety: with performances from Brazilin Time, a multimedia Brazilian hip-hop jazz hybrid crafted by Madlib and J-Roc, digital extremism from Japanese binary purist Ryoji Ikeda, and finger-bleeding piano drones from cognac swilling teddy-bear fetishist Charlemagne Palestine. Top it off with grappa and a gelati and that's one fine excuse to head to Rome. May 9-10 Dissonanze, Rome
