Yesterday saw Marc Houle release the first in a four part digital series on Minus titled Sixty-Four.
Each Wednesday in August will see Houle release a new EP featuring 3 tracks.
Initially produced as a set of live DJ tools for Richie Hawtin and his Minus labelmates, the tracks have been created using rare, strange and hard to find production and sampling methods. These including obscure sequencers and drum machines, an assortment of synths (80s, modern buchla, digital and early analog), samplers, vocals, acoustic drums, electronic trigger pads, a bass guitar and even a VST.
Week 1 is a new batch of minimal blips and bleeps which will be a welcome addition to the many Minus sound-a-likes around the world. Week 2 takes in video game influences, a heavy dose of basslines and driving techno. Week 3 is more mellow, sampling guitar loops and drum rolls. Finally, Week 4 promises effects, delays, disorientation and even some vocals from Magda.
