- The French duos will see if they win a statue in February of next year.
Late last week, the 2009 Grammy Nominees were revealed, complete with a baffling nod to a Daft Punk track first released in nearly a decade ago.
The nominees for the "Best Dance Recording" feature a version of Daft Punk's "Harder Better Faster Stronger," taken from their Alive 2007 album, as well as Hot Chip's "Ready for the Floor," Madonna's "Give It 2 Me," Lady Gaga's "Just Dance," Rihanna's "Disturbia" and Sam Sparro's "Black & Gold." As the category has often featured—and been won by—more pop-oriented acts, the good money here seems to be on Rihanna taking the crown, but the fact that Daft Punk were even nominated seems to be a sign that their collaboration with Kanye West could help net them a statue.
The French duo are also nominated for "Best Electronic/Dance Album," along with Brazilian Girls for their New York City effort, Cyndi Lapuer for Bring Ya to the Brink, Kylie Minogue for X, Moby for Last Night and Robyn for her self-titled album. It's a category that's only been around since 2005 and has seen The Chemical Brothers take the award twice, along with Madonna and Basement Jaxx each grabbing statues as well.
Remix-wise, we have another French duo, Justice, getting the nod for their take on MGMT's "Electric Feel," with Stonebridge, Junkie XL, Moto Blanco and Deadmau5 also receiving honors for their work. Carl Craig fans will remember that this was the category in which Benny Benassi beat out the Detroit producer's rework of The Junior Boys' "Like a Child" last year, leading one RA user to exclaim, "I wish I could brush the Grammy judges' teeth with my dick."
