As general manager of Tresor Records from 1994, Carola Stoiber was responsible for one of the most important techno imprints of the era. It wasn't just the sound of Tresor that made it formidable, it was its international reach: Stoiber helped cultivate relationships with scenes in Detroit, Chicago, Edinburgh, Birmingham, London and more. But as the club itself was forced to close and relocate in the mid-2000s, the music industry was changing dramatically. Tresor Records suffered through the effects of digitisation, and even though the label survived, Stoiber was ready to do something else when Tresor finally returned from exile.

Stoiber originally wanted to be a journalist. She studied history, politics and journalism at university in Berlin, before becoming the music editor of Tip magazine in the early '90s. Funnily enough, Stoiber wasn't into dance music until discovering Underground Resistance, preferring the likes of post punk and hardcore. Now a booking agent, Stoiber met RA's Holly Dicker in Amsterdam during Katharsis to offer a punk's view of Berlin over the last three decades.
