- Sara Abdel-Hamid smelters down a variety of club musics into an invariably personal and recognisable style. Whether juxtaposing sounds and rhythms traced from dubstep, dancehall, 8-bit, techno, freestyle, R&B, grime or myriad other genres, Abdel-Hamid's work has a clarity, colour and economy that's been clear since her debut in 2008.
Despite having released three albums and at least 15 EPs, Abdel-Hamid has ticked up her output recently, with new EPs for both Hyperdub (Hollow) and Don't Be Afraid (Bodies) coming out in 2020 so far. In conversation with Martha Pazienti-Caiden, Abdel-Hamid speaks about the role of record labels in 2020, writing club music during her pregnancy, and her connection to the early dubstep community.
