RadioNasty - Radio 1

  • There's a really nice question and answer type of thing happening on the A-side of RadioNasty's debut record, which also happens to be the inaugural 12-inch for Craig Richards' label The Nothing Special. Initially, a series of grumbling bass notes tumble forth, leaving a noticeable gap in their wake. Soon, however, blocky 303 notes move in to fill the space. Coupled with a light jack beat, the result is a simple, laidback groove, albeit with a grittier edge than much contemporary house. For a straight-up club track, it's also unusually patient, pushing gently to a warm break before returning to the same mild intensity. The more techno-inclined "Radio 2" isn't so polite, leading off with frizzy synth sweeps before introducing a manic, rubberised bassline. As the two bound forward together, they collect glassy stabs and wriggling, worm-like chords. According to their SoundCloud, RadioNasty―UK vets Radioactive Man and Billy Nasty―have several more of these numbered tracks on the way. Whether they'll continue to be released via The Nothing Special is the only question.
