Ike Release - Subsequent EP Despite the gnarly basslines, odd acid gurgles and restless drums, listening to the tracks on the first release of Ike Release's new label is a pleasurable experience. They're warm and fuzzy, introspective yet propulsive. "Subsequent" roams free like an optimistic spaceship through a network of sci-fi synths, whereas "Puntigam" is a shuffling little number with everything bar the supple kicks in grainy soft focus—the sporadic claps, swirling melodic zephyrs and loose underside all sounding somehow frayed. Keeping things firmly in Chi Town, Hakim Murphy is called upon to strip back some of the clutter from "Subsequent" for his remix, taking the original into deeper, darker territories in the process. That mood is then carried over into the final hurrah, "Wetworks"—a superbly deep and atmospheric joint.
