Outboxx - Power Cruising
There has been reams written about the blurring of electronic music genres—especially in the UK. Don't worry, we'll not add to that here, but it's safe to say that Outboxx's Matt Lambert and Jake Martin (who also records as Hodge) construct their sun-flecked, groove-laden deep house with their eyes wide open and their ears fully pricked. "Through the Night" breezes in on a bed of gentle Rhodes before being joined by trippy synths and Naomi Jeremy's girly 2-step-style vocals, a summer vibe offering hope of brighter days. "Power Cruising" keeps with the Rhodes as a weapon, but this time Outboxx drive it across jazzier fields, stopping off for a spacey breakdown before cutting back in with a killer low-end bassline in tow. As relevant to fans of George FitzGerald as it is Gilles Petersen worshippers, Outboxx are where old school funk, proper soul and bass-heavy 21st century house music collide.
