- Hot City's most recent Moshi Moshi EP, Buggin' Out is like a dance music history lesson, from hardcore to the present day, in four tracks. "Buggin' Out" updates the UK garage template with chopped up vocals that are tweaked high then low and squawking old school synth blasts, while "Hand Clap" is bouncing hip-house revivalism spliced to a shuddering footwork rhythm. "You & Me 4 Eva" is the most conspicuously retro of all, with rave horns, plonky hardcore keys, rattling breakbeats and a squeaky, girly vocal. The EP could probably end there, as Haus' Unknown To The Unknown Remix of "Buggin' Out," which whips in squelchy 303 noodlings to go with its driving bass stomp and unstoppable pace, adds little to the piece.
