Nocturnal Emissions - Silent Recordings

  • ’Nocturnal Emissions’ is the latest release on a Sydney label by the name of Silent Recordings. It features 12 original local records mixed and compiled by Nick Wales and is ideal for those Silent Nights at home alone with a Red wine and some quality tunes. Here’s why. The album commences with a fantastic vocal number by Shapeshifter featuring Lady 6 called “Move With Me”, a summery drum and bass opener. The subtle beats and little squeaks of “Conspiracies in a Quite Room” follow by Deepchild as the album opens in style. The beats get chunkier and melodies start to emerge with “Wildfire” by Afterboy, as also shown by Pnau’s mix of “Downtime” by Jenny Morris. We walk back to drum and bass lane with the soothing vocals of Orisha’s “Diversion” while the brilliant strings and atmospheric movements of “Trinity” by Tonemeister are sure to provide one of the biggest highlights of this mix. This really is a stunning track. Soundlab provide a tech-house inspired track in “Normalize This” while Telemetry Orchestra provide a lounge room record in “Shutterspeed”. The Nightswimmer mix of “Orphan” by Amphibian delivers a blend of broken beats and eerie sounds. “Holy City” by Coda is a smooth journey into some classical sounds and drums while the MEEM remix of Entropic’s “S.T.H.M.C.S.H.P” is a fusion of quirky drums and deep sounds. The Keepers provide a driving dancefloor remake of Old Man Time’s bed time rhymes in “Bonnie’s Lullaby”, a solid choice of tracks to conclude the mix. Another stellar release by an Australian label. Silent will hopefully move on to big and better things sooner rather then later if releases like this are the benchmark. Be sure to check this mix out to check out the talent coming from this Sydney based label. Available for purchase and listening at Silent Recordings Website. Highly recommended.
