Max Graef - Am Fenster

  • Copenhagen's Tartelet has been consistently pushing experimental strains of house since arriving in 2008, so the recruitment of offbeat teenage producer Max Graef isn't a surprise. Through his tracks on his own Box Aus Holz and ongoing involvement with Melbourne Deepcast, the 19-year-old Berliner has shown a preference for raw-edged, organic sounds. Maintaining this style, the title track—a collaboration with Tartelet's label manager, Emil Margetli, and Mathias Mesteño—swirls an assortment of honeyed croons around clap-heavy Detroit jazz, making for the EP's standout track. Labuzinski, Graef's studio partner, features on "Wrakk," an even deeper excursion into percussively fractured, melodic electronica. The less successful "Pink Panther" sounds akin to West London's future-jazz movement of the early '00s.
