Big G - Sunshine

  • Big G started his career as a reggae DJ, and it is clear to see his influences with this record, entitled Sunshine on Proper Records. On the a-side is the Original Mix. It begins with some smoothly paced break beats, with little reggae undertones. The subtle baseline helps keep the flow in the early stages as does the quirky wailing vocals. Soon enough we are introduced to a speed garage style baseline that brings back a few memories and maintains a smooth flow throughout. An interesting production to say the least. On the flip is Tonk’s FM Remix. The beats are slightly faster in this remix and the subtle vocal elements remain in tact. The baseline is not as intense in this mix, but it’s smooth and helpful to the track. The sweeping effect deep into the track really gives it a nice feature as do the subtle melodic riffs that feature midway. A nice cheeky remix. This release deserves a bit of credit for its uniqueness, but most of all, the fact that there are 2 pretty good productions on the slab of wax.
