The night began with a Red Bull Music Academy showcase featuring Melmann, whose experimental DJing and shady vocals warmed the room up well. Around 2 AM the basement doors opened, inviting the crowd to descend and engage with the tough beats of resident DJ Mariano DC. Finishing with Dave Clarke's classic ''Wisdom To The Wise," his storming performance perfectly laid the groundwork for the night's headliner.
Sumner began on a Sandwell District vibe, flicking between his own tracks and cuts from label staple Rrose. With tight mixing and a flawless track selection, his set carried that rare timeless feeling that comes from old and new-school records slotting together seamlessly. His transition from Head High's "Rave (Dirt Mix)" to Rolando's Detroit anthem ''Knights Of The Jaguar'' was a particular highlight, resulting in ecstatic clamours from the crowd. Cuts from Mathew Jonson, Lemon 8, Envoy and Robert Hood also found their way into the impeccable four-hour performance, making sure Cocoliche was rammed with grateful, happy clubbers right up until the house lights came on.
