Groove Armada - Fabric London

  • Fabric, one of London's premier superclubs, definitely lived up to all expectation. It is definitely a pilgrimage one must make. I thought that it would be fitting that at my debut I should conveniently time to go when Groove Armada were playing a DJ set. The venue was quite large to say the least. 3 well sized music rooms and then some additional bar areas and lounge areas. I initially thought jeans were the wrong option but the air conditioning made it very comfortable without making it too cold. The bathrooms were huge there were few lines if any. There was a huge queue to get in, for people who hadnt pre-purchased ticket which i could imagine would have been quite a wait. But inevitably worth it. We decided to check out the Hip Hop room to get movin. But we were pleasantly surprised to see a Japanese Turntablist Champion (whose name eludes me, please email me if you know) play a vast array of music styles, which included reggae, hip-hop house and some old classics with a whole lot of cutting and scratching in between. He played the crowd well with his cheeky little dance moves. He made the crowd roar every now and again, whether it was displaying the quickest hands in the east or dropping in a filthy tune. Some of the best turntablin' i have seen. By 1am it was time to see GA do their stuff. They lived up to their expectation. While nothing would beat seeing them play live, it was good to see them display their music tastes in a dj set. What they were into was exactly what myself and the rest of the crowd was into. They chucked in some Underworld, some new stuff and then a few Armada classics like Superstylin. I cant recall too much from the Lovebox album, which i thought could have been included. But at the end of the day they rocked and i would definitely recommend going to see the boys whether they are live or not. Sadly i missed Grooverider in the Drum & Bass room but caught a bit of action. Not a big fan of that genre but my friend who spent the whole night in there didnt have any compaints. My only qualms with the night were having too many people at the venue. Whilst it is good to have a place like that full it was just a little over full. On all of the dancefloors it was a bit of a shitfight. Fabric definitely lived up to its expectations. You might be seeing a few more reviews coming from there as Plump DJs and co.
