Redshape - Wires
This one-track release on Sebastian Kramer's Present Recordings finds the formerly anonymous German producer in a serrated, minimal mood. He pulls off an alchemy he's managed before, taking glacial ingredients and producing something warm and generous. The primary parts of "Wires" are a woozy bass hum and clattering percussion. Kramer's fizzing, acidic bassline dominates, swaying unstoppably forth as hats and drums fade in and out, leading to a closing peak in which all the elements rise to a delicious, controlled crescendo. Executed with typical confidence and skill, this is a brooding nine minutes of tightly wound techno.
