Boogie Balo feat. Roxy – Chocolate & Peanut Butter

  • This rather freaky double pack from YO featuring Boogie Balo and vocals by Roxy might ring a bell with many as the acapella was included on Deep Dish’s Global Underground Moscow. Its been a long time waiting, but it has finally got its release with some exciting remixes. The Original Squish mix starts off with some infectious beats and rasping percussion as it is swiftly met with the freaky vocal and the crazy effect it creates. Swishing, swooping sounds are constantly creating a bouncing-from-speaker-to-speaker effect as the track gets funkier, with a twist of tribal madness. A great array of sounds are added into the mix and are actually quite hard to describe. The breakdown gets all warped with the vocal playing along while some rattling sounds take over in the percussion department. A very unique mix to say the least. The Double Dee remix goes into a deep, more melodic territory as the mix starts off with smothered, controlled beats and an effects laden vocal. Simple low bassline hooks and dark drums create the deepening effect while sharp, aggressive noises and high hats give the track a driving feel. The vocal is continually mashed up with echoing effects and work really well in the breakdown alongside the toned down bassline. The second half of the mix uses a more distorted bassline and then moves back into low, sustained synths and edgy, sampled loops. Progressive and deep all round. Sidekick gets his hands on this number and spins off a thumping, house remix bursting at all the seams. Aggressive bass drums and stabbing, synth hooks play a big part as the mix introduces a rolling atmospheric synth and quirky electro squeals. Sidekick has born a dangerously hot mix here as the speakers are always full with sounds, both high and low end. Almost everything is sharp while everything stabs and weaves its way around. A lot of people have been comparing this mix to Danny Tenaglia’s mixes of Green Velvet's 'Flash' as Sidekick has put in a stellar effort here. Balo’s Creamy Blend mix is quite an indulgent affair as the lush, bouncy beats and quirky percussion play a part in this mashup. Airy synths filter behind kinky, freaky samples while the vocal plays its part in making a commotion. Just think of cream, white and fluffy, then add some wickedness with a touch of deviant beats. Very catchy. This double pack is quite a varied with all mixes reaching new ground with sounds and appeal.
