Jason Sparks - Secret Place EP

  • Rachel Modest has got quite a voice, as those who've heard her Bluefoot Project vocals will testify, ad the Jason Sparks song Secret Place exploits its rich lower register. It opens up a bit like MJ Cole's 'Sincere', with Modest's suggestive vocals over a rumbling bass. There are 'no hurts, no strife, no contemplating life, just you and me'. Sounds an attractive proposition when she sings it like that! The remixes are good - Deekline's is a pounding breaks affair with subtropical bass and a distant vocal back in the mix, with suprisingly cool keyboards mellowing things off. Meanwhile B.L.I.M. goes back to the old school riff drawer with a phat beat to match. The other original track here 'Left To Live For' is a full-bodied Unkle bothering string number, with cinematic synthesizers showing off Sparks' versatility.
