Gui Boratto - Take Control

  • Gui Boratto has long had a knack for writing emotional, pop-infused summer bangers, and "Take Control," his first new material of the year, finds him staying true to form. This track features fellow Brazilians Mariana Perrelli and João Komka, AKA Come and Hell, and very much fits the anthemic mould of big-electronics-plus-female-vocals that Boratto established with "Beautiful Life" and has revisited many times since. In this case, Perrelli's breathy vocal is joined by glinting synth and guitar riffs and booming drums to create something as smooth and romantic as it is floor-ready. The package includes four remixes. There's not a dud among them, but Danny Daze's searing "Wormhole Dub" version is the pick. As is customary with the Miami producer, he goes hard from the off, rising to a malevolent crescendo before slowly exploding with a coda of seasick synths and filtered-beyond-all-recognition vocals. Elsewhere, Argentina's DJs Pareja move the original from beach to warehouse by ditching the warm synths and adding sharp percussion. Weval's mix goes for ethereal techno, while Come and Hell's presumably strong affinity for the original is reflected in their taking a light touch on their remix. "Take Control" may well be a touch formulaic, but when a formula produces results this enjoyable who's complaining?
