Grand Resonant – Central / High / Low

  • For the cheeky 007 release on Resonant Recordings comes an absolute scorcher from the works of Grand Resonant. 3 top draw tracks, with the a-side especially being a highlight production from 2003. Central is that track on the a-side, and it got heavy support from the likes of Hernan Cattaneo and Danny Howells. The track builds for the first half with the use of vibrant drum work as well as a rippling melody that bubbles at the surface. The drums intensify in stages until it halts midway, unleashing a delicate and stunning melodic breakdown, with trickles of sound, vocal snippets and smooth rolling baselines all meeting in perfect unity. The track hits its peak after the breakdown, and the result is fantastic. Firstly on the b-side is High. As the name suggest, the tempo is quite intense as the track pounds from the word go with clattering drums and hats as well as a synthy loop. The breakdown midway sees the synthy loop meet some sweeping strings shortly before the drums come roaring back in creating a peak time monster. Low follows with some deep tribal drums meeting a smooth and flowing baseline. The track maintains a pretty steady flow, and the warm trippy pads keep it interesting throughout. This is a very solid release from this mighty impressive Belgian label. While Central is worth the vinyl alone, the two tracks on the flip are also impressive.
